Memoir – A new CD by Dorian Mode

Most gigs Dorian plays these days are with his swinging trio. Yet recordings to date have all been with larger groups. But for years Dorian has wanted to record the group with which he plays live. At last the long-awaited trio CD has arrived. In a career that has seen him record for both EMI and ABC Jazz, and chart overseas, Dorian’s emerged with a soulful trio recording, close to his heart, that’s sure to impress.

Adding to the anticipation, recently tracks were submitted for the ABC Radio Awards. His hard work was rewarded with an award for Best Jazz Composition for Lydia’s Waltz, which he wrote for his wife and Best Instrumental for Blondie, Variations on Debussy’s The Girl with the Flaxen Hair, which he penned for his mother. Indian Summer

The collaboration of these two most accomplished Sydney jazz musicians has produced an album of excellent musicianship and pristine studio recorded sound, bringing traditional jazz to a new audience in a fresh setting.

Charade

This CD was released last month in Japan and now in Australia. It entered Swing Journal Jazz Vocal Charts at No. 2 and has been described there as “jazz vocals masterpiece”.

Janet Seidel has been described as “first lady of Australian jazz singing” in the “Penguin Guide to Jazz on CD” (UK). Though perhaps not a typical jazz singer, in the clichéd sense of the word, she is a stylist and interpreter and is regarded in Japan and some other countries as ranking in the Top 10 female jazz vocalists in the world today.

The songs by Mancini are timeless. The recording is audiophile quality.
